Meet Our 2016 Fellows - Katie Bohri

We have an amazing group of Fellows joining the NLC family this year, and we’re excited to learn more about the issues closest to them and why they love calling Philly “home."

Katie Bohri, Marketing Coordinator, Mt. Cuba Center

Katie Bohri - For Blog

What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the NLC Institute?

Katie: The prospect of making new friends always excites me, but making new friends who are driven and inspired to make the world a better place? I'm practically humming.

What are the issues closest to your heart?

Katie: The safety and equitability of the built environment and environmental sustainability, hands down. These aren't very enticing terms, so I refer to them as streets and seeds, respectively. I refuse to believe that traffic deaths are inevitable, and I love plants and sharing that love with others while attempting to mitigate the damage caused by human-driven climate change.

Describe your ideal “Philly day.”

Katie: Oh boy. I am lucky to have lived this day so many times. I get to live it, in some way, nearly every day. The ideal Philly day actually starts the night before, with a soft pretzel from Center City Pretzel Company right when they open at midnight. It's perfect after having a couple drinks at Ray's Happy Birthday Bar. The next day, I wake up and go to the Italian Market for breakfast supplies. Coffee from Fante's, eggs from Carl's, tortillas and hot sauce from San Roman, and an avocado, onion and lime from whichever market stall has the best looking produce that day. That all mixes into a really wonderful morning in my kitchen.

Really, any adventure with friends makes the day perfect. Last week I helped a friend bring her couch to the dump. I had never been to the recycling center before. It was an adventure!

What do you love most about Philly?

Katie: I love its fierce local pride and lack of pretension.
