We have an amazing group of Fellows joining the NLC family this year, and we’re excited to learn more about the issues closest to them and why they love calling Philly “home."
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the NLC Institute?
Jillian: The thing I am most looking forward to with respect to the NLC Institute is meeting other progressive thinkers and leaders who are doing great work in Philly. As someone who is relatively new to the city, I am eager to find a likeminded community with which to strategize and cultivate meaningful and productive relationships. Additionally, I am so excited by the opportunity that NLC Institute presents for personal growth and development tailored toward advancing the progressive values that I am so deeply committed to.
What are the issues closest to your heart?
Jillian: Civil and Human Rights! I firmly believe in – and am lucky enough to work professionally towards – equal opportunities for all.
Describe your ideal “Philly day.”
Jillian: Breakfast from Parkway Corner Deli on my roof deck overlooking the Art Museum, lunch at Reading Terminal Market (consisting mainly of 4th Street Cookies) on the way to Duke & Winston to play with Duke the English Bulldog, afternoon geeking out at the National Constitution Center, dinner at El Vez, evening pick-up basketball at Fairmount’s Fresh Prince of Bel Air basketball court, and night spent dancing all over the Gayborhood. Last but not least, late night food at Midtown II Diner.
What do you love most about Philly?
Jillian: I love Philly’s accessibility, diversity, culture, and sense of community. I have lived in Boston, Chicago, and DC, and I feel as though Philly has provided me with the greatest opportunity thus far to both attend eclectic events and initiatives, and connect with city residents from all backgrounds. Oh, and cheesesteaks.
