We have an amazing group of Fellows joining the NLC family this year, and we’re excited to learn more about the issues closest to them and why they love calling Philly “home."
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the NLC Institute?
Griffith: I most look forward to building new relationships with savvy young guns and growing in character/skill/leadership alongside the group through the workshops and lessons. I'm a sucker for unusual learning games, as well as clever people - both of which seem to be present in spades.
What are the issues closest to your heart?
Griffith: I feel most energized when my work goes towards helping people to develop a strong personal sense of morality and self. For the most part, this is addressed through arts & culture as well as education.
Describe your ideal “Philly day.”
Griffith: How fun! A portrait of my perfect day in Philly...I wake up at the crack of dawn for a hearty breakfast in South Philly. After nomming on french toast, I'd make my way over to the Wissahickon and set up shop at a hammock for a nap and book. Around noon, I would head to Center City for Good Stuff Eatery burgers and shakes, but not without swaying through Rittenhouse to the gritty sounds of brass improv. After attending a lecture in University City, I'd navigate to Chinatown for soup dumplings and catch a cultural film before topping the night off at a diner in Fishtown where I could be jolly and merry with friends while playing games.
What do you love most about Philly?
Griffith: The loveliest part of Philadelphia is the way that so many cultures, people, and ideas are crammed into such a (relatively) small area. As such, distinctly vibrant neighborhoods overlap and acutely intersect, which makes for easy adventures. Also, with the influx of millennials, it's fun to be surrounded by so many change-makers.
