We have an amazing group of Fellows joining the NLC family this year, and we’re excited to learn more about the issues closest to them and why they love calling Philly “home."
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the NLC Institute?
Anna: With all sincerity, I’m really looking forward to working together, and growing as a cohort. After only spending one weekend together, I’m truly blown away by how amazing, interesting, and dedicated our group is.
What are the issues closest to your heart?
Anna: I’m most passionate about mental health and veterans’ issues. My first job out of college was working in a detox facility, and it completely changed my perspective about what it means to be affected by mental illness, and it fueled my fire to advocate on behalf of that community.
Describe your ideal “Philly day.”
Anna: Philly is so lucky to have such an amazing park system. We are home to 10,200 acres of urban park land! I would absolutely spend the day hiking with my fiancé and dogs, and then eat at our favorite Italian restaurant in Germantown.
What do you love most about Philly?
Anna: I’ve said this elsewhere before, but I love all the opportunity that Philly has to offer. Yes, it can be tough at times, but every sector in our city is growing and expanding. I’ve spoken with leadership in a variety of fields, from nonprofit, to traditional corporate sectors, to new start-ups, and every one of them shared how excited they are for the future. While there are always ways to improve, it’s exciting that leadership across the board is envisioning a city that promotes growth.
